            Puppies? Training? Training puppies? Oh. I knew it. You were thinking that training is not for puppies. I guess you were also thinking that these two words do not match with each other. And! You might be also thinking that training a puppy is impossible. “He’s just a puppy! The same goes for babies you can’t teach them yet.” “Dog training? Dog obedience? Sure. But puppy training? Nah. I don’t think so.” Well. That is not true. Training our dog when he is still young is very effective if you want him to be a very well trained dog in the future.

Warming up

           No. you are not going to warm up like what they were doing before doing an exercise. Warming up here is warming yourself. Your approach to your dog is the foundation of the success of your puppy being trained. You should remember that your pup will learn if there’s a positive environment. You should never, ever yell or give negative comments such as screaming at your dog with your face frown. Doing that will not only confuse your dog but will surely discourage him from learning to be trained. Also, you cannot expect your dog to be obedient if you are always being hard on him. So meaning, be patient, chill, and motivate your puppy through positive comments and treats.

How To Teach A Puppy To Come

            What you are going to do is to say come to your pup together with his name. Give him treats whenever he respond. In that way, your pup will learn that whenever you say come or his name, you will give him a treat or a reward. On the other hand, if your dog does not respond after repeating his name for a while, don’t repeat it anymore. Avoid repeating your puppy’s name; saying it too often when he doesn’t respond makes it easier for him to ignore it. Instead, move closer to your puppy and go back to a step where he can be successful at responding to his name the first time.

            After being consistent, make some more movements. Make him chase you or toss your treat. In that way, your dog will learn that being called by you is fun. Lastly, do not call your pup if you will only punish him. Doing that will make him think that you are unpredictable.

How To Teach a Dog Loose Leash Walking

            First, make sure your puppy is comfortable wearing a leash. It will feel strange and weird for them at first. Some may bite on the leash but be patient. Give your puppy treats as you put the leash on each time. Then, stand next to your puppy with the leash in a loose loop and give him several treats in a row for standing or sitting next to your leg. Take one step forward and encourage him to follow by giving another treat as he catches up.

As you walk forward, continue giving treats to your puppy at the level of your knee or hip. When he runs in front of you, simply turn the opposite direction, call him to you, and reward him in place. Then continue. Gradually begin giving treats further apart (from every step to every other step, every third step, and so on).

            Eventually, your dog will walk happily at your side whenever he’s on his leash. But let your dog smell and sniff things around him. When he is done, tell him “Let’s go!” in a happy voice and your pup will surely and finally enjoy walking on a leash.

How To Teach a Dog To Sit

            Well, the first thing you need to know when teaching your pup to sit is not to force him to sit. That will only confuse your pup. What you should do is stand in front of your puppy holding some of his dog food or treats. Wait for him to sit – say “yes” and give him a treat. Then step backward or sideways to encourage him to stand and wait for him to sit. Give another treat as soon as they sit. After a few repetitions, you can begin saying “sit” right as he begins to sit. Also, you can also teach him to sit using the other way. What you should do is to sit in front of him. Hold the treat as if you are luring him. Tell him to sit. Lure his treat if his bottom already touching the ground. Repeat one or two times with the food lure, then remove the food and use just your empty hand, but continue to reward the puppy after he sits. Once he understands the hand signal to sit, you can begin saying “sit” right before you give the hand signal.

            Make training sessions fun. Like F.U.N. Also, never forget that training sessions should be short because puppies get easily bored for they have a very short attention span like kids. If your pup seems to be stubborn, reflect on how are you training him. You might be teaching him too fast and not giving him enough rewards and encouragement.
