First U.S. Coronavirus Positive Case in Dogs: A North Carolina Pug Victim
On Tuesday, the American Humane Society has reported the first corona virus-positive case in a North Carolina pug. According to Hong Kong health authorities, this is most likely to be the first human-to-animal transmission, then later on, also appearing in pet cats. Research, however, says that dogs are less prone to the virus.
The unfortunate pug, named Winston, is said to be living under the guidance of three people who have already contracted the virus living in Chapel Hill. The agency believes that it has got its illness from whoever in the household. The family of the pet is also said to be taking part in a study at Duke University.
Earlier, before this confirmation, two pet cats in New York were reported to have also gotten the disease. This incidence has led health authorities to warn people that as of the moment, there is no evidence that the virus can be passed from pets to humans.
“In the middle of the crisis we are currently facing, the COVID-19 pandemic, may we, just as much as we make sure that our children and loved ones are safe and nourished, also take care of our pet dogs and not leave them behind. May we keep in mind that they are part of our family, and their family is only us. Let us protect our pet dogs also against the virus so that we can have them for a longer time in our lives as soon as this is all over.”- Puppies Gear Company
